Forty-years ago Hot Press were saying those sorts of things about U2. “ The description applies just as perfectly now to Versatile,the Ringsend rap crew whose tunes and videos; ‘We Sell Brown’, ‘Ketamine’, ‘Dublin City G’s’, ‘Perfume’and ‘Prefontaine’ among them, routinely rack up millions of streams and views online."
VERSATILE, whom no longer need any introduction are your parents worst nightmare and Ireland’s unrivalled anti-heroes of Hip Hop. This summer Versatile made Irish music history and undoubtedly cemented themselves as Ireland's biggest Hip Hop group. June 2019 saw Versatile sell out a headline show at Cork Marquee ( 5,000 tickets ) in a matter of hours making it the biggest domestic rap show to be headlined by an Irish artist, in Ireland.
This was a huge milestone for Versatile. Snoop Dogg headlined the same stage in 2010.
This success was soon to be dwarfed by their unforgettable performance at Longitude Festival to a 40,000 strong crowd, leaving the rest of the festival site deserted. Following that they sold out their biggest headline concert to date at the Three Arena Dublin, once again in a matter of hours.
To think it couldn’t get any bigger they landed a spot on Snoop Dogg’s ‘I Wanna Thank Me’ Arena Tour with dates throughout the U.K and Ireland, with rumblings of some European arena dates to be announced soon.
In the midst of this whirlwind of success Versatile have found themselves catapulted into friendship and musical love affair with Grammy award winning West Coast Legend COOLIO. Forever immortalised by his Grammy award winning anthem ‘Gangsta’s Paradise”, the first rap song to ever reach global success of such a magnitude, COOLIO is a true godfather of Hip Hop. The songs blend of Dublin and L.A rap styles tied together by Evan Kennedy’s master production is everything one would expect and hope for from a Versatile track. Coolio’s recognition and appreciation of Versatile’s unique style is an exciting prospect as the Ringsend Rap-Stars venture into the most exciting part of their journey yet, as they bring OUTBURST to the masses.
