Glen Hansard has built a career defined by honesty, powerful songwriting and unforgettable live performances. Since emerging as frontman of The Frames in 1989, he has become one of Ireland's most influential contemporary artists.

His reputation as a songwriter and performer has earned admiration from some of the biggest names in music, including Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder and Joni Mitchell.

From The Frames to an Oscar-Winning Career

Many first encountered Glen Hansard through his role as guitarist Outspan Foster in the acclaimed film The Commitments, but it was with The Frames that he established himself as one of Ireland's most respected musicians.

The band's growing reputation led to an extraordinary moment in 1993 when Bob Dylan visited one of their rehearsals before inviting them to support him at London's Hammersmith Apollo, a defining milestone early in their career.

Hansard's international profile grew even further with The Swell Season, alongside Czech musician Markéta Irglová. Their music became the heart of the award-winning film Once, with the song "Falling Slowly" receiving the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008. The film introduced millions of listeners to Glen's deeply personal songwriting and remains one of Ireland's most celebrated musical stories.
